Data storytelling workshops for HR teams

Both formats use the Headline, Arc, Stakes framework with HR examples tailored to your team. Start with one session, or build over three.

One session

The Intensive

A concentrated workshop for teams that want a shared approach to data storytelling and focused practice in one session. It introduces the principles, then gives participants chances to apply them through exercises and discussion.

What participants practice

  • Clarifying the question behind a request
  • Articulating what leaders need to know and do
  • Structuring a clear story around the evidence
  • Explaining why the findings matter
  • Framing a useful next step
  • Presenting options that make the recommendation easier to evaluate

What’s included

  • Live facilitation
  • HR examples and exercises tailored to the agreed scope
  • Hands-on practice and time for questions
  • Reusable resources: templates, cheat sheets, and practical AI prompts

Not included: data visualization. Want it? Add the Accelerator’s visuals session (designing visuals for decision-making) as a standalone session.

Best for: teams that want a common language and practical tools but can’t commit to a multi-session program.

Three sessions

The Accelerator

Two hours each, spaced 1–2 weeks apart

Participants develop a current piece of HR communication across three sessions. They learn, apply the principles to their own work, come back with questions, and keep building the message, the story, and the visuals.

The three sessions

  • Session 1: Sharpen the messageClarify the question, identify the important signals, select supporting evidence, and connect the takeaway to organizational priorities.
  • Session 2: Structure the story and build buy-inOrganize the message and evidence into a clear narrative, frame the recommendation, and explain alternative paths forward.
  • Session 3: Design visuals for decision-makingPractice chart choice, simplification, titles, annotations, and benchmarks that make the insight easier to understand.

What’s included

  • Three facilitated sessions with tailored HR examples
  • Hands-on practice and time for questions in each session
  • Between-session application to a current presentation or other agreed deliverable
  • Resources after each session: cheat sheets, slide templates, and practical AI prompts or workflows

Best for: teams that want to go deeper and revamp a real project from start to finish. Every component gets covered, so participants leave with a fully built presentation that just needs their final polish.

Questions teams ask

Who is this training for?

Any HR team that shares data-backed findings and recommendations with leaders, from generalists like HR business partners to specialists in areas like total rewards, talent, or people analytics. Your team doesn’t need to be the one pulling the data. If sharing insights with leaders is part of your team’s remit, this is for you.

Which format should we choose?

The Intensive gives your team a shared approach and common language in a single session. The Accelerator goes deeper on each stage: your team learns a piece, tries it on real work for a few days, then comes back to build on it. Not sure which fits? Email me and I’ll recommend one.

Is the training customized to our team?

Yes, where it counts. The principles and frameworks stay the same for every team. The examples and exercises are tailored to yours: the topics most relevant to your work, the tools your team uses, and the formats you deliver, whether that’s slide decks or one-pagers.

Will participants get feedback on their own work?

There’s time for questions throughout each session. If your team wants feedback on specific projects, individually or as a group, you can add office hours to your proposal.

Do you cover AI?

Yes. Both formats include practical AI prompts alongside templates and cheat sheets, plus suggested AI workflows that help with parts of the process. In the Accelerator, each session comes with a prompt file or workflow.

Is the training virtual or in person?

Both are available. In-person sessions include a flat travel and expense fee based on the travel involved.

How much does it cost?

The final investment depends on the format and how much customization you need. Email me a little about your team and I’ll send a proposal.
